A cane is a medical device designed to assist elderly people, those with reduced mobility, or anyone who has difficulty moving around. A walking cane not only provides extra support but also helps maintain balance, reducing the risk of falls.<\/p>\n

Often referred to as a \u201cthird leg,\u201d a cane can help you regain your independence, whether walking indoors or outdoors.<\/p>\n

A cane is a very useful walking aid! But do you know how to use it properly? Or how to choose the cane that best suits your needs?<\/em><\/p>\n\n <\/div>\n <\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n

How to use the cane correctly?<\/h2>\n <\/div>\n\n

If you use only one cane<\/h2>\n <\/div>\n
\n

If you are able to place both feet on the ground, a simple walking cane is sufficient. To use your cane correctly, place it beside you on the side of the leg that bears the most weight. This will help reduce pressure on the leg or hip causing pain. You should move your cane forward at the same time as your weak or affected leg.<\/p>\n

When going up stairs, place only your healthy leg on the first step, then bring your cane and weak leg onto the same step.<\/p>\n

Conversely, when going down stairs, place your cane and weak leg on the first step, then move your healthy leg onto the same step.<\/p>\n\n <\/div>\n <\/div>\n <\/div>\n

If you use elbow crutches<\/h2>\n <\/div>\n

If you are not allowed to place one of your feet on the ground, you will need a walking aid that provides full support. Using crutches is therefore necessary. To start walking, place both crutches slightly in front of you at the same time, then step forward with your healthy leg. Under no circumstances should you hop on one foot.<\/p>\n
